Alexandre Bayen

Alexandre Bayen is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His research includes mobile internet applications and modeling and control of distributed parameters systems, with applications to transportation systems (air traffic control, highway systems), and distribution systems (water distribution networks). His most recent work involves the use of GPS-enabled mobile devices to monitor real-time traffic conditions. Before joining the UC Berkeley faculty in 2005, he worked as the research director of the Autonomous Navigation Laboratory at the Laboratoire de Recherches Balistiques et Aerodynamiques, (Ministere de la Defense, Vernon, France), where he holds the rank of Major. He was also a visiting researcher at NASA Ames Research Center from 2000 to 2003. He received the Engineering Degree in applied mathematics from the Ecole Polytechnique, France, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford University.
