Janet Broughton

Janet Broughton is a professor of philosophy, dean of the arts and humanities division in the College of Letters & Science, and acting executive dean of the College of Letters & Science, where she says “some of the world's most creative minds pursue fundamental questions about human life and the world around us.”

Her teaching and scholarship focus on the philosophy of the 17th and 18th centuries. Broughton is the author of “Descartes's Method of Doubt” and she is currently working on the philosophy of David Hume, a key figure in the Scottish Enlightenment and in the history of Western philosophy.
