Our cast of authors Kirk Smith, professor of global environmental health Kirk Smith is a professor of global environmental health at UC Berkeley and founder-director of the campus-wide master’s program in Global Health and Environment. He previously led the Energy Program at the East West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. He also holds visiting professorships at universities in India and China and membership in the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. His research focuses on the health and climate impacts of air pollution from energy use in developing countries including current field studies in India, China, Nepal, and Guatemala. He participates in a number of international assessments including the Global Energy Assessment, the International Comparative Risk Assessment, and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
