Liz McKenna's research focuses on the class dynamics and mobilizing structures of Brazil’s current protest cycle (and lack thereof). Her broader academic interests include state-society relations, social movements, and stratification.
Before coming to Berkeley as a graduate student, McKenna studied and organized in six favelas in Rio de Janeiro for two years. In 2008 and 2012, she worked as a grassroots organizer for the Obama presidential campaign. She holds a B.A. in social studies from Harvard.
