Lorraine Midanik, dean of social welfare

Lorraine T. Midanik is dean of the School of Social Welfare and a professor of social welfare. She received her Ph.D. in behavioral sciences in public health from The Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health and has had extensive experience in the field of health, alcohol and drugs as a clinician, researcher and teacher. She conducts epidemiological research on alcohol use and alcohol problems at the Alcohol Research Group. Midanik has also conducted several alcohol and drug studies with the Division of Research of the Northern California Region of the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program. She is currently a Senior Program Consultant to The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Substance Abuse Policy Research Program; she also consults to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. More recently, she was a Fulbright Scholar at the Stockholm University where she conducted a study on the funding of alcohol research in Sweden.
