As a graduate student in the Department of City and Regional Planning, Rebecca Sanders wrote her dissertation on perceived and actual bicycling risk in the San Francisco Bay Area. As a post-doc she researched pedestrian safety and Safe Routes 2 Transit in California. Sanders taught the Pedestrian and Bicycle Transportation Course in City & Regional Planning, and has conducted research developing performance measures for Complete Streets and exploring roadway design preferences across various road user groups. Sanders was a member of the Transportation Research Board's Bicycle Transportation Committee, servedon the California Department of Motor Vehicle’s statewide Traffic Safety Culture Committee, and co-chairs the TRB Pedestrian and Bicycle University Education Subcommittee.
