Sandra Bass

Sandra Bass is assistant dean and director of the UC Berkeley Public Service Center, where she works with students, faculty, and communities to promote and catalyze transformative and sustainable social change. Bass was as assistant professor of criminology and political science at the University of Maryland, College Park. In 2002 Sandra joined the David and Lucile Packard Foundation and in 2009 she was selected to lead the foundation’s girl’s education, women’s leadership, and reproductive health program in Sub-Saharan Africa. Following her time at the Packard Foundation she served as executive director for Teach With Africa, a cross-cultural service-learning program that facilitated reciprocal engagements between K-12 teachers in the U.S. and South Africa. Bass holds a B.A. from San Jose State University and an MA and Ph.D. from UC Berkeley, both in political science. She also serves as board chair of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights in Oakland.
